Add Preview Text

Get better open rates

This article shows you how to add Preview Text to an automation and edit the default preview text in a campaign. Preview Text is a tiny piece of digital real estate that displays in your readers' inboxes before they open the message.

Most experts agree that carefully crafted Preview Text can increase open rates. Do a little research, and you might find estimates that suggest open rates increase from 8% to 45%.

Editing an automation

To add or update preview text for an automation:

  1. Go to the Automations page and select a card.
  2. Switch off the toggle to deactivate the automation.
  3. Click the three-dot icon and select Edit.

Adding text

Go to the Preview Text field and enter a short message that will inspire your readers to open the message. Click the Next button.

Edit the automation (if you want). Otherwise, just click the Save button and then Save & Continue on the popup.

Testing the message

Before re-activating the automation, send a test message (optional but recommended).

  1. Go to the automation card.
  2. Click the Preview link.
  3. On the Preview window, click the More button and then select Send Test.
  4. Enter an email address and click the send button.

Open the email account and locate the test message.

The custom preview text (see above) really pops in the inbox. It's easy to scan and displays a clear benefit to the reader. The default preview text (see below) runs off the field and, depending on the copy, might not grab the readers' attention inside a crowded Inbox.

Editing a campaign

Campaigns are AI-generated and designed to run on autopilot. That means, by default, they include preview text. You can review and edit that text.

The editing flow is similar to what I described above, with a couple of small differences.

  1. Go to the Campaigns page and select a scheduled campaign.
  2. Switch off the toggle to deactivate the campaign.
  3. Click the three-dot icon and select Edit.

Edit the existing preview text as required. Click Next, click Save on the following page, and send a test message. Be sure to re-activate the campaign after you finish.

That's it.

Now you know how to add or edit automation and campaign message preview text.
